I’m submitting this story to show the beauty of adoption. This past Friday, I went in to work at the animal shelter I regularly volunteer at, and saw we had a guinea pig in the back. I was thrilled, because I owned guinea pigs when I was younger and they were my everything. I haven’t had one in many, many years. I picked her up, and an officer said “How did you get her out without her screaming? No one has been able to yet.” I told them you have to be very patient and slow with guinea pigs, and other things you must know if you’re following this blog.
I met a cat that day that I fell in love with and genuinely considered adopting, and went home that day to sleep on it. I thought about the guinea pig, too, and how much I missed having one. I went back to the shelter the next day and was told the cat I wanted was gone, but the guinea pig was still there… and needed to be adopted badly. The officer told me that she liked me, and if I’d take her, the shelter would give me a cage, water bottle, food bowl, and the guinea pig herself for free. I couldn’t say no. It was obviously fate.
The night I brought her home, I let her hang out in my lap in a towel, and she fell right asleep. It was like she could finally breathe and relax. She has all the fresh veggies she could want, and a nice big bag of timothy hay to snack on every day. We both found a happy ending, and I saved her life. I’ve named her Pidwidgeon, and here’s to many happy days for both of us.
(Oh, and she lost her sister in the past week at the shelter due to stress, and I’m looking into finding her a new buddy, too! C:)Submitted by zombieirish
